film aspects
How does tone work in film?
Another work for tone in a film is 'brightness'. there are 3 main elements of tone, lighting, exposre and art direction. in the first scene that they show us in the video the scene is really under exposed causing us to only be able to see the peoples figure until they change the camera angle allowing us to see his face. the majority of this scene in the god father is set under exposed because they are talking about violance and death. the dirrectors can change the feelings of the scenes by changing the brightness.
How does the over-the-shoulder shot work?
the effect of an over the solder shot is to connect the charecters together, where a single shot is disconnecting the charecters. in this scene to disconnect the charecters the dirrectors place the camera on a dolly to slowly zoom foward to cut out the lady. the lady gets totally icolated and we can tell this because the dirrectors used a close up frame to cut everyone out who she does not have a connection with; it then shows us how alone the lady is in westworld.
How does film blocking work in film?
3 ways that producers use film blocking is using space, shapes and lines. the 3 basic shapes for film blocking are squares, triangles and circles. circles feel safe and inclusive, squares create limited space, like bozing someone in and triangles are sharp and agressive (like Mr Aitken) :) 2 things that can help with blocking are contrast and subtext.
How does camera movement work in film?
a whip pan is the equlivent of quickly turning to see something, where the slow pan gives you time to see the landscape. the tilt shot is used to reveal something. the reverse dolly zoom is used to help show the audiance that the charecter is having an intence moment. the steady cam is simaler to the dolly shot but in sedicam shots the camera is sliding gracefully on the camera opperater. the hand held shot has a shakey feeling that creats an anxiety feeling.
What is film theory?
How is contrast used in film?
directers can use contrast in tone, art direction, blocking, camera movement and colour.
How is the Dutch angle used?
How do visual motifs work in film?
How does a POV or POT shot work?
What is film criticism?
How does the insert shot work in film?
How does production design work in film?
How does colour work in film?
How do establish shots work in film?
What is the auteur theory?

essay planning continued
The incident of Zélie finding Amari in Lagos and helping her escape helped me to understand the idea of the loyalty between friends and family because it shows me how you can become best friends with someone you only just met or someone you haven't known for ages. we see this when Amari pulls Zélie in between 2 fruit stands pleading to her to help her escape I quote; "Please help me! I have done something unforgivable. If they catch me..."The incident of Zélie finding Amari in Lagos and helping her escape helped me to understand the idea of the loyalty between friends and family because it showed me that friendship can be more valuable than you think, so much it can save your life. It also showed me that peoples words can have such a big impact on your decisions and choices. I say this because Zelie listened to Mama Agbas words when she said "you must protect those who can't defend themselves" which pushed Zelie to help Amari escape Lagos.
